The animals in this category are often sold as live food, but they also play a crucial role as the macro cleaning crew. Although rarely seen in the aquarium, they are always hard at work. The constant presence of live food can make a significant difference for successful breeding in some of the previously mentioned species. Additionally, maintaining a thriving culture of these animals in the aquarium provides a valuable buffer of food.

De dieren binnen deze categorie worden vaak verkocht als levend voer, maar ze vervullen ook een belangrijke rol als macro-schoonmaakploeg. Hoewel ze zelden zichtbaar zijn in het aquarium, zijn ze continu hard aan het werk. De constante aanwezigheid van levend voer kan bij sommige van de eerder genoemde soorten ook het verschil maken voor een succesvolle kweek. Bovendien biedt een goed onderhouden cultuur van deze dieren in het aquarium een waardevolle buffer aan voedsel.

PERMANENT AANWEZIG / PERMANENTLY PRESENT

Een eerste categorie levend voer bestaat uit permanent aanwezige varianten. Na introductie kunnen deze organismen zich in het aquarium voortplanten en een stabiele, zelfonderhoudende populatie vormen. Dit zorgt voor een continue, natuurlijke voedselbron, vermindert de nood aan constante bijvoeding en stimuleert natuurlijk foerageergedrag, wat bijdraagt aan een gezonder micro-ecosysteem.

Net als bij de andere categorieën zijn er ook hier optimalisaties mogelijk. Het voorzien van geschikte substraten, bladafval of oppervlakken rijk aan biofilm helpt deze organismen sneller te vestigen. Dit geeft de “schoonmaakploeg” een ideale start en zorgt voor een stabiele basispopulatie. Daarnaast kan de constante aanwezigheid van klein levend voer ook andere soorten in het aquarium stimuleren tot voortplanting, doordat het fungeert als een natuurlijke trigger.
